BILINGUAL BOOK #26

pandaguan-front.jpg (127686 bytes)   This story is taken from the legend
of the creation of the world written
by Miguel de Loarca in 1582. The legend,
a part of a myth of the Yligueynes(Hiligaynon)
was taken by Loarca from the island of the Pintados(the name the Spanish gave the inhabitants of Panay because of their tatooed bodies).
The myth began with the creation of the world by the gods Kaptan
and Maguayen. This was followed by the birth of the first Woman
and the first Man from the bamboo and the spread of humanity
from their children. Pandaguan is one of the early men and his sad
fate is believed to be the reason why people die.
